ART AND GEOMETRY

REGULAR POLYGONS

Our first Technical Drawing Activity will be a mandala done with regular polygons. Here are a few tutorials to refresh your knowledge about the Regular Polygons' constructions.

THEORY FOR THE NOTEBOOK

Lets see now how to draw regular polygons inscribed in a circumference:

REGULAR POLYGONS GIVEN THE SIDE:

ACTIVITY: REGULAR POLYGONS MANDALA

Lets pratice the Geometrical Constructions we have learnt by designing our own MANDALA.

FIRST DO A PRACTISE IN NORMAL PAPER

STEPS:
1- In the center of a normal paper you draw a circumference 8 cm radius.
2- Then you divide the circumference in equal parts (7,8,9,11...).
3- You draw regular polygons, depending on the parts you divided the cicumference. For example: if you divided it in 8 equal parts you can do an star octogon or an octogon, if it was 11 an hendecagon, and so on...

THEN THE FINAL MANDALA IN THE DRAWING PAPER (BASIK PAPER)

In the drawing paper you will repeat the previous steps and then trace the lines with felt-pens and colour the mandala with colour pencils, feltpens, crayons, pastels, water-colour or temperas.

YOU WILL HAND IN THE BOTH THE PRACTISE AND THE FINAL WORK

FIRST TASKS WITH COLOUR

COLOUR WHEEL WITH COLOUR PENCILS

Draw an 8 cm radius circumference and divide it in 12 equal parts, then colour the primary, secondary and tertiary colours (in this order) using only the three primary colour pencils. Write the names of the colours and divide it in two parts, indicating warm and cool colour schemes.

ART MASTERS PROJECT

LET'S LEARN THROUGH ART MASTERS!

This project involves research and written exercises as well as different technique practices and acting (Role Play exercises).

Let's see a little bit more about it here:

TEXTURES IN ART

Texture

The visual elements of an image are: POINT, LINE, SHAPE, FORM (SPACE), VALUE, COLOUR AND TEXTURE.

During the passed first term and part of this term we have seen four of these visual elements: Point, Line, Shape and Value. The next visuals elements to see are TEXTURE, COLOUR and FORM/SPACE (PERSPECTIVE).

TEXTURE is a powerful art element because it can quickly evoke memories and emotions. Start becoming
more aware of textures all around you—the carpet, in the clothes you’re wearing, and the fur on your cat.  Let's see these presentations and video to get a better idea of this concept:

SHAPES: PICTURE THIS!

HOW DO PICTURES WORK?

One of the Elements of Art is the SHAPE. We are going to use shapes to tell a story. Here is a great example how to use SHAPES to transmit, tell and communicate emotions.

Now is your turn to tell us a story...

DRAWING TUTORIALS

I agree with Shoo Rayner: "Everyone can draw. Anyone can learn to draw better. Forget about art. Drawing is a language that helps you communicate with others. Get some paper, make some marks and you are drawing!"

"It's not about Art - it's about drawing and anyone can do it. Join in and have a go - you can do it" ; D
